During the first week, participants will dabble in low-flying
trapeze, clowning, juggling, pantomime, set design, costuming,
and acrobatics. A full day field trip is planned to Circus World
Museum in Baraboo to see live performances and experience
authentic artifacts from the rich history of the American Circus. To
begin the second week, participants will help set up an actual big
top circus tent! In addition to adding new skills and disciplines
(such as stiltwalking and Spanish
Web) to their repertoire, participants
will develop their very own circus acts
and show. Then they will showcase
these skills for families and friends at a
spectacular end-of-camp performance!
Our Circus Arts Immersion Camp is
staffed by professional performers who
wish to share their love of the circus with
the next generation.

Each day will begin with a concentrated theme-based “classroom”
session in Spanish language to develop the vocabulary necessary
to carry out camp activities related to the day’s theme. Campers will
then practice and reinforce new vocabulary through games, songs,
dance, crafts, sports, stories and dialogs. Campers are encouraged
to use the language whenever possible including meals, breaks, and
field trips.
Campers will have opportunities to cook and eat authentic foods
from countries where Spanish is spoken, and discover how daily
life is spent in these countries. Instructors are native speakers from
Columbia, Mexico, Peru, and Puerto Rico and love to share their
traditions and cultural practices. The ultimate goal of the program is an immersion experience
in language and culture that inspires participants to continue to
seek and learn about other cultures and languages. The Spanish
Language Immersion Camp is recommended for those with a
sincere interest in learning Spanish and who have had some
exposure to the language.
