Maria Undraitis
Bio: Maria started with AFTER SCHOOL in November 2006. She was born in Russia and has lived in the U.S. for five years. Her experience working with children includes teaching English as a second language to six to eight year olds. She enjoys music and attending concerts. She plays the accordion and piano. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and hiking.
"Each child is different and has something special in them. The goal of a teacher is to find it and help them to grow."
Providing an environment where kids can safely take risks and grow together as a community is important to the Thoreau staff. The program is based in the gymnasium, reserving half of the space for large motor activities. Before school care and scouting are also offered at Thoreau. Thoreau School sits on the edge of a city park; AFTER SCHOOL kids can play soccer or climb on the playground equipment.
