Fox Prairie Club Program
Hats, hats, and hats! All the kids in the Fox Prairie Club Program sewed their own fleece caps. Club Specialists, Mary Jo and Kelly, taught the kids basic sewing machine safety and showed them techniques for how to stitch straight lines. The kids wear their hats all the time. One child said she wears her hat on the bus, at recess, during AFTER SCHOOL, while playing at home and even to bed! Positive comments from parents and teachers about these special hats have made the children and staff very proud.
The group also mailed 62 homemade holiday cards to a medical unit in Iraq in which Mary Jo's niece is serving. Several kids expressed concern that receiving the cards would make the soldiers sad because they couldn't be home for the holidays. The children received an email from the soldiers thanking them for the cards and telling them how much it meant to the medical team to receive them. The group is going to continue writing to the soldiers as they all agreed that it was a fun project.
Besides craft projects they are also learning how to cook. So far they have made apple sauce from scratch, pretend "eyeballs" for a Halloween party (...ask us for the recipe!) and fry bread.
