Positions & Descriptions

Volutneer

School year Volunteer positions
(3-20 hours per week)
Volunteers provide one-on-one attention to an individual child or work with small groups of children. Other duties may include preparing a snack, playing a game indoors or outdoors, tutoring or assisting with homework or working on 4-H projects. Exact duties will vary according to program or site needs. Other responsibilities may include:

  • Sitting at a table with a small group of children and joining their activity
  • Listening to children talk about what they like
  • Reading a story to a small group
  • Playing a board game
  • Leading a song that you know
  • Sharing a hobby or a life skill that you have
  • Seeking out a quiet child to talk with
  • Helping a child who has difficulties participating in activities

Probationary Period for Volunteer positions:
Length of volunteer service

Requirements of the position:
An interest in working with children in a recreational, informally educational setting. Must be 13 years of age or older.

Compensation and Benefits:
Personal satisfaction from developing relationships with children, plus the knowledge that you have done a valuable community service.

The Volunteer position reports to the Site Supervisor assigned to the site where the Volunteer is working.
