Unit Director
Summer Day Camp Unit Director
(20-30 hours per week)
Day Camp Unit
Director positions are 10.7 weeks in duration; 10 weeks of camp
and .7 weeks of pre/post camp responsibilities. Unit Directors must have access to a vehicle for travel to the
various day camp sites. The Unit Director is responsible all
planning and instruction related to assigned specialty unit
area (i.e. biking).
Program
It is the responsibility
of the Unit Director to implement a high quality school-age
day camp related to the assigned specialty area. The Unit Director
provides direct on-site programs to the children enrolled; along
with the Camp Specialists, coordinates a weekly schedule and
oversees program planning and implementation including field
trips and special events.
Working
Relationships
- Reports to the Program Director
and the Camp Director at assigned sites.
- Advises and supports Camp Specialists
with regard to their specialty unit area.
- Serves as a liason between Camp
Directors, Program Director and Camp Specialists.
Principal
Job Responsibilities
- Conducts all planning and instruction
related to the assigned specialty unit area.
- Attends all activities with assigned
group, directly related to the specialty unit topic.
- Coordinates planning and scheduling
with the Specialists who are assigned to the unit.
- Purchases and maintains the appropriate
equipment for the unit.
- Assures the safety of campers
and staff members during unit related activities and trips.
- Develops, compiles and organizes
resource materials related to the specialty unit.
- Makes contact and develops collaborative
partnerships with appropriate regional and national associations
as well as community contacts related to the unit.
- Provides a high level of developmentally
appropriate instruction for all assigned groups.
- Assists in other program areas
as needed and as assigned by the Camp Director or the Program
Director.
Probationary
period for Unit Director positions:
6 weeks
Requirements
of the position:
Candidates for
this position must be at least 21 years of age. A Bachelor's
degree in child studies, elementary education, recreation, physical
education or other child-related field is preferred. Minimally,
candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and
at least two years of post-high school education. Candidate
must have experience and demonstrated skill in the assigned
specialty area. First Aid and CPR certifications are required.
(Training in First Aid and CPR prior to summer can be arranged.) Must have access to a vehicle.
Compensation
and Benefits:
Starting salary
for the Unit Director position is determined by candidate's education
level and experience. All summer positions include the
following benefits: Current school-year employees not enrolled
in AFTER SCHOOL's health insurance program and summer only employees
may claim up to $100 toward a personal health care expense that
occurs during the summer employment period. Current school-year
AFTER SCHOOL employees already enrolled in AFTER SCHOOL's health
insurance program receive $100 toward their July and August premiums. As an additional benefit, summer employees within to enroll
their own children in an applicable AFTER SCHOOL day camp program
may do so according to the following rate: First child at no cost;
second child - 50% of regular program fee; third and subsequent
children - 100% of regular program fees. Staff must be
working during the weeks the child is enrolled. Special
programs such as Wander Wisconsin and Middle School U may be substituted
for a maximum of one week at the cost difference. Subsequent
weeks of special programs are full price. |
