Assistant Camp Director
Summer Day Camp Assistant Director
(20-40 hours per week, depending on the site)
Day Camp Assistant
Director positions are 12 weeks in duration; 10 weeks of camp
and 2 weeks of pre/post camp responsibilities. The Assistant
Camp Director is responsible for working the Camp Director to
manage the day-to-day operation of a day camp program site.
It is the Assistant Camp Director's responsibility to operate
the camp in accordance with the Policies and Procedures set
forth by AFTER SCHOOL and the State of Wisconsin day camp (or
day care) licensing regulations as well as American Camp Association
standards. The Assistant Camp Director's responsibilities are
divided into three major roles: Program, Personnel and Development.
The Assistant Camp Director serves as the principal on-site
staff person responsible for overall camp operations whenever
the Camp Director is not on-site.
Program
It is the responsibility
of the Assistant Camp Director to work with the Camp Director
to implement a high quality school-age day camp program that
is operated in a fiscally and legally responsible manner. The
Assistant Camp Director provides direct on-site programs to
the children enrolled; coordinates a daily schedule and oversees
program planning and implementation including field trips and
special events. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Camp
Director to support the Camp Director's efforts to coordinate
all transitions throughout the summer and to oversee the purchase
and maintenance of site supplies, equipment and snacks.

Personnel
It is the responsibility of the Assistant Camp Director to assist
in providing site-specific orientation and training for all
staff and volunteers to assure that all site personnel are knowledgeable
of and operate within the Policies and Procedures of AFTER SCHOOL,
state regulations governing day camps (or childcare centers),
and A.C.A. standards. It is the responsibility of the Assistant
Camp Director assist with coordinating staff schedules and oversee
hours, supervise staff on site including any aides or volunteers,
counsel and guide staff to develop skills and knowledge, keep
staff informed and provide the support needed for staff to succeed.

Development
It is the responsibility
of the Assistant Camp Director to assist with planning, developing,
implementing and evaluating site programs within the goals of
the AFTER SCHOOL organization through the Quality System. As
management staff of AFTER SCHOOL, the Assistant Camp Director
has the responsibility to assist efforts beneficial to the fiscal
well-being of the organization through marketing and input into
the evaluation process. It is the responsibility of the Assistant
Camp Director to promote and improve the program viability through
the development and maintenance of positive relationships with
parents, school personnel, the community and AFTER SCHOOL staff.

Probationary
period for Camp Director positions:
6 weeks
Requirements of the position:
Candidates for
this position must be at least 25 years of age. A Bachelor's
degree in child studies, elementary education, recreation, physical
education or other child-related field is preferred. Minimally,
candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and
at least two years of post-high school education and meet the
state licensing requirements of a Camp Director or school-age
lead teacher, as well as the A.C.A. requirements of a Camp Director.
Supervisory experience is a must for this position. First
Aid and CPR certifications are required. (Training in First
Aid and CPR prior to summer can be arranged.) Must have
access to a vehicle.
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting salary
for the Camp Director position is determined by candidate's education
level and experience. All summer positions include the
following benefits: Current school-year employees not enrolled
in AFTER SCHOOL's health insurance program and summer only employees
may claim up to $100 toward a personal health care expense that
occurs during the summer employment period. Current school-year
AFTER SCHOOL employees already enrolled in AFTER SCHOOL's health
insurance program receive $100 toward their July and August premiums.
As an additional benefit, summer employees within to enroll
their own children in an applicable AFTER SCHOOL day camp program
may do so according to the following rate: First child at no cost;
second child - 50% of regular program fee; third and subsequent
children - 100% of regular program fees. Staff must be
working during the weeks the child is enrolled. Special
programs such as Wander Wisconsin and Middle School U may be substituted
for a maximum of one week at the cost difference. Subsequent
weeks of special programs are full price. Independence
day is a paid holiday for Assistant Camp Directors. |
