Special Float Substitute
School year Special Float Substitute positions
(10 to 20 hours per week)
Early morning and/or late weekday afternoons M-F, with additional paid time for planning, staff meetings and inservice training. At each site, it is the responsibility of the Special Float Substitute to plan and implement a recreational and educational program for school-age children in accordance with the policies and procedures established by AFTER SCHOOL and the State of Wisconsin child care licensing regulations to assure the health and well-being of each child in the program. Special Float Substitutes are expected to fulfill the same responsibilities and parameters as Program Specialists.
In addition to serving as a substitute for a site Specialist, Special Float Substitutes must be able to provide additional programming and enrichment at the site to which they are assigned for the day.
Probationary Period for Special Float Substitute positions:
8 weeks
Requirements of the position:
Candidates for the above positions must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Two years post-high school education with at least three credits in child-related course work is required (child development, childcare, elementary education, recreation for children). A college degree is not necessary for this position. Candidates must have experience (either paid or volunteer) working with groups of children in the 5-12 age range, preferably in a recreational or informal educational setting. Candidates must also have daily access to a vehicle.
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting wages for the Special Float Substitute position is determined by the candidate’s education level and experience. Benefits for employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week include variable payment toward single premium coverage of offered health and dental plans depending on hours worked. Eligible employees not opting for health and dental benefits will receive a monthly cash payment equivalent to half of the applicable employer contribution.
As an additional benefit, employees wishing to enroll their own children in an applicable AFTER SCHOOL care program may do so according to the following rate; first child - no charge, second child -50% of regular program fee.
The Special Float Substitute position reports to the Site Supervisor of the site to which the Special Float Substitute is assigned.
