Program Aide
School year Program Aide positions
(3 - 20 hours per week)
Primary responsibilities of the position are to assist the Program Specialists in providing supervision to the children to assure their safety, and to assist in planning and implementing a quality program designed to meet the developmental needs of each child. As a direct link between AFTER SCHOOL and the parents/guardians of the children in the program, it is the responsibility of the Program Aide to promote customer satisfaction. They will comfortably meet the needs of children (5-12), including some with disabilities, in a friendly, warm, supportive, informal environment. They must be able to provide fun and interesting educational as well as recreational activities that are developmentally appropriate, i.e., arts and crafts, sports, games, cooking, music, gross motor activities, field trips, etc. They will involve children cooperatively and meaningfully in the planning process and be experienced in group techniques, program organization and planning for children. Other responsibilities include support for the overall maintenance of the program site and the fostering of positive relations between the program, school personnel and the community. Each Program Aide has a responsibility to maintain and develop his or her knowledge and skills through the completion of continuing education.
Probationary Period for Program Aide positions:
8 weeks
Requirements of the position:
Candidates for the Program Aide positions must be at least 16 years of age, but do not need to have a high school diploma. Candidates should have some experience (either paid or volunteer) working with groups of children in the 5-12 age range, preferably in a recreational or informal educational setting.
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting wages for the Program Aide position is $6.50 per hour. Benefits for employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week include variable payment toward single premium coverage of offered health and dental plans depending on hours worked. Eligible employees not opting for health and dental benefits will receive a monthly cash payment equivalent to half of the applicable employer contribution.
As an additional benefit, employees wishing to enroll their own children in an applicable AFTER SCHOOL care program may do so according to the following rate; first child - no charge, second child -50% of regular program fee.
The Program Aide position reports to the Site Supervisor of the program at which he or she is working.
