Community Program Director

Community Program Director position
(40 hours per week, school year salaried)
The Community Program Director is responsible for providing supervision and development of programs for an assigned community. The Community Program Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of a cluster of AFTER SCHOOL program sites within specific communities. It is the Community Program Director’s responsibility to foster and maintain positive relationships with both the school community and the community at large. The Community Program Director’s responsibilities are divided into three major roles: Program, Personnel and Development.

Program
It is the responsibility of the Community Program Director to oversee the implementation of a high quality school-age program, operated in a fiscally and legally responsible manner within the community or assigned group of sites. The Community Program Director provides regular feedback to site supervisors in regard to program offerings and mechanics and monitors program operations including, but not limited to planning, execution and implementation of special program elements, field trips and special events. It is the responsibility of the Community Program Director to assist in coordination of all transitions throughout the year and to oversee the purchase and maintenance of site equipment and use of discretionary program funds.

  • Assisting site supervisors in preparing the site at the beginning of the year
  • Training and monitoring of program set-up, systems, planning and execution
  • Monitoring compliance with state licensing standards
  • Risk management
  • City and state standards, other outside regulatory agency requirements.
  • Fiscal management of line items
  • Program record maintenance and tracking
  • Coordinate end of the year site closing
  • Overall level of safety, fun and learning at all assigned program sites

Personnel
It is the responsibility of the Community Program Director to provide a general orientation covering licensing mandated topics for all new staff to assure that all site personnel are knowledgeable of and operate within the policies and procedures of AFTER SCHOOL and the state regulations governing child care centers; providing training for all staff and volunteers through inservices. It is the responsibility of the Community Program Director to coordinate staff schedules and oversee hours, supervise site supervisors, counsel and guide supervisors and staff to develop skills and knowledge, keep all staff informed and provide the support needed for all staff to succeed. The Community Program Director is the liaison between the community or assigned group of sites and the administrative office.

  • Orienting program staff and site supervisors
  • Coaching and guiding staff development through inservice training
  • Keeping staff and supervisors informed
  • Providing staff and supervisors with what they need to do the job
  • Monitoring staff schedules and budgeted hours
  • Communication with immediate supervisor and other administrative staff (keeping them well informed)
  • Support for staff -- maintaining a positive environment and building a team.
  • Feedback for supervisors regarding their development through the IAP process
  • Support other sites, supervisors, and staff
  • Maintain his/her own level of professional development
  • Staff record maintenance

Development
It is the responsibility of the Community Program Director to plan, develop, implement and evaluate site programs within the goals of the AFTER SCHOOL organization through the quality system. As management staff of AFTER SCHOOL, the Community Program Director has the responsibility to make decisions beneficial to the fiscal well-being of the organization through marketing and input into the evaluation process. It is the responsibility of the Community Program Director to promote and improve the program viability through the development and maintenance of positive relationships with parents, school personnel, the community and AFTER SCHOOL staff.

  • Development of existing program elements
  • Research of potential new programs/locations within the community
  • Program Evaluation and QAP
  • Setting long and short-term goals in accountabilities through Individual Action Plan
  • Quality system use and adherence
  • School-site relations, including regular contact with school administration
  • Parent communication
  • Public relations, marketing and visibility initiatives for both assigned sites and the organization
  • Program content quality
  • Interest assessment and program/system integration
  • Resource development
  • Liaison with outside agencies and non AFTER SCHOOL staff (volunteers, research projects, visitors, et.al.)
  • Support of regional and organization-wide activities

Probationary Period for Community Program Director positions:
6 months

Requirements of the position:
Candidates for this position must be at least 21 years of age. A Bachelor’s degree in child studies, elementary education, recreation, physical education or other child-related field is required. Supervisory experience is a must for this position; candidates with experience supervising multiple locations are preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:
Starting salary for the Community Program Director position is determined by candidate’s education level and experience. Benefits include one paid personal leave day per 22 worked, paid holidays, paid vacation, and variable payment toward single coverage of offered health and dental plans depending on hours worked. Eligible employees not opting for health and dental benefits will receive a monthly cash payment equivalent to half of the applicable employer contribution. Supervisors also receive short and long term disability insurance as an employer paid benefit. As an additional benefit, employees wishing to enroll their own children in an applicable AFTER SCHOOL care program may do so according to the following rate: first child - no charge, second child - 50% of regular program fee.
